Music copyrights, European Court of Justice ruling (C-10/22) ended the SIAE-LEA duopoly
On March 21, 2024, the European Court of Justice made a clear, and in some ways revolutionary, ruling on the management of copyright in musical works in Italy and the EU: in a ruling clarifying the interpretation of Directive 2014/26/EU on the intermediation of copyright and related rights in musical works (the Barnier Directive), the Court implemented a complete liberalization of the intermediation sector in the music field, with a disruptive impact on the SIAE-LEA duopoly in Italy.
