Directive (EU) 2023/970, adopted by the European Parliament and the Council on 10 May 2023, has introduced binding measures for Member States aimed at ensuring equal pay between men and women for the “same work or work of equal value.”
As expressly stated in the legislative text, the Directive seeks to strengthen and make effective the principle of equal pay already enshrined in Article 157 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) and in Directive 2006/54/EC. It does so by introducing pay transparency measures and reinforcing monitoring and enforcement mechanisms.
