Works between copyright protection and freedom of use

The dispute between the protection of copyright and the free use of what it protects has taken on new connotations due to technological developments and rapid access to digital content.

Recent is the "Friday of Republic" case (May 24, 2024) that saw the release of its "Art Hour" column devoid of reference images because, according to its author, too high were the charges demanded by the SIAE for the use of those images. A sort of protest, the one enacted by the author of the column, which followed the disputes between META and SIAE in 2023 and the recent disappointment of the ArTribune newspaper that reviewed the works of Giorgio Morandi's exhibition at the Palazzo Reale in Milan without being allowed to make use of the images of those works.
