Energy supply contracts, nature and characteristics of “power purchase agreements”
Continuing the overview of the “actualities” of the renewable energy sector, this paper analyzes the characteristics of energy supply contracts, the so-called power purchase agreements (“PPAs”) of U.S. origin, which are now standard practice in Italy as well.
Let us recall, preliminarily, that the need to produce and consume “ clean ” energy, i.e., from sources other than traditional fossil fuels (first and foremost, that generated by photovoltaic plants), imposed not only by European Union and national regulations, but also by economic and geopolitical assessments and, last but not least, by the growing collective sensitivity to environmental protection, is a subject of certain topicality, which also requires for its implementation suitable tools and among them, precisely, those for contracting the transfer of “green” electricity from a “direct” producer (or trader) to an end user.
